If you still haven’t made Heritage day plans, we’ve got a last minute addition for you to consider.
Lanzerac Hotel and Spa is hosting a lunch of ‘gastronomic proportions’. With a history that goes all the way back to 1692, Lanzerac Wine Estate’s beauty, rich heritage and lasting charm make it the perfect place for a celebration on Heritage Day, in the Stellenbosch winelands. With a menu inspired by its history, this meal will be a trip back in time.
You’ll kick things off in the Danie Craven lounge with a glass of Lanzerac’s Alma Mater Rosé, before being welcomed to a long table dinner setting in the Governor’s Hall. The buffet, a true feast for the senses created by Executive Chef Stephen Fraser, will begin with plum tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil caprese salad; smoked snoek mousse with grape jelly and melba toast; and roast tomato and onion soup with shavings of biltong, croutons and sour cream.
The menu then moves on to your choice of roast leg of lamb with rosemary and Pinotage sauce; whole roast deboned chicken with sun-dried tomato and feta; braised oxtail with baby onions and haricot beans, or West Coast mussels in a creamy white wine Sauce and toasted ciabatta, all accompanied by a selection of delicious vegetables.
Wrapping things off with something sweet, the dessert selection will feature crème caramel with hazelnut sugar shards; white chocolate profiteroles filled with a hazelnut cream; Cape malva pudding with orange anglaise; and apple and raisin strudel.
The meal will be served with a glass of each wine in Lanzerac’s Heritage Range: the Mrs English Chardonnay, Le Général (a red blend) and the Pionier Pinotage.
There will even be prizes up for grabs – a tutored tasting by cellar master Wynand Lategan, breakfast for two, a spa treatment, cheese and wine pairing and so much more will be gifted to a few lucky diners.
