    Seven Elements Every Bedroom Needs

Make your bedroom a calm, yet luxurious space in a few easy steps

    October 6, 2014

Styling up your bedroom is one of the hardest spaces to make work. This is because, while aesthetics and looks are crucial, comfort in one’s bedroom is the most important. Here are seven details that will do just that: add comfort and look fantastic too!

1 The perfect amount of pillows

There are many stand-up comedians who take the mickey out of the amount of cushions one finds on a bed – but let’s face it, cushions equal luxury and comfort. There is an ideal amount for each space, so always play around with shapes and sizes, and don’t forget textures can add luxury to your arrangement.

    2 A comfy rug

Mats and rugs not only ground the room, but if you opt for a slightly thicker texture you will definitely add comfort to your space. Layered rugs are all the rage now, so move around a few rugs to achieve the optimum comfort level. Remember, if your bedroom is rich in patterns and prints it might be wise to opt for a plain, monotone mat – but if you have plain colours in the rest of the space, switch it up.

    3 A place to sit

If you can, try to fit a chair or couch into your bedroom. Yes, it probably will end up with clothes hanging over it sometimes – but it will ground your space and add a whole new dimension to your bedroom. A reading corner is a super addition to a space, so why not add this little luxury to your bedroom?

    4 Tech-free zone

Have you ever tried to make your bedroom a tech-free zone? Eliminating tech from your space ensures quick relaxation, however reality sets in and we all know that this is not always possible, nor is the tech-free rule going to last. So how about keeping no tech visible, in your bedroom? This basically means that if you do have a TV or laptop in your bedroom, don’t have them on display all the time. Place your TV behind a screen or in a cabinet and put your laptop away.

5 Bedside tables that reflect who you are

Yes, you need your standard side-table ingredients, such as a clock, book and lamp – but also show off some of your favourite things, have a framed photo, your favourite ornament or precious things on display in your room. These small details not only reflect who you are, but add a little bit of intimacy to the space.

6 It’s all about the bed

We cannot deny the importance of your bed in your bedroom, or even in your home! Make sure you have a decent mattress, yes they are expensive but the investment is worth it. Also take time to think of your sheets, thread count and style all add to the serenity of your space.

    7 Adjustable lighting

Lighting helps calm the mind and sends you off into a good night’s sleep. Try installing a dimmer on your main light so that you can adjust the lighting according to your needs and mood. Also think about your bedside lights, while they need to be bright enough for you to read, you also do not want to feel as if you are under examination when they are on. Another atmospheric addition to any lighting is candles. Place some candles in your space. The flicking natural night of a candle will calm you down immediately. If you enjoy scented candles this is an ideal solution to your space too.
