    Step by step: Paper flowers

Cut a leaf from green cardboard and attach it to the flower stem to use as a place card for your table setting

    17 September 2014

    You will need

    • crepe paper
    • florist’s tape
    • florist’s wire
    • scissors

GOOD IDEA Cut a leaf from green cardboard and attach it to the flower stem to use as a place card for your table setting.

1 Cut 25 heart shapes from the crepe paper (ours are 8cm tall). Cut two crepe paper circles 5cm in diameter. Make a ball of crumpled crepe paper about the size of a marble. Fold the crepe paper circles around the paper ball.

2 Insert the end of the florist’s wire into the covered paper ball. We left our stem the full length of the florist’s wire, but you can cut it if you prefer a short stem.

3 Use florist’s tape to secure the wire to the ball.

4 Continue winding the florist’s tape around the wire stem until it is completely covered.

5 Now fold a heart-shaped petal around the paper ball, taking care not to tear the petal.

6 Use florist’s tape to attach the petal to the stem.

7 Continue in this way until you’ve used all the petals, attaching them all around the central ball so the petals overlap and look natural.

8 Carefully press the petals open then use your thumb and forefinger to gently rub the ends of the petals to make them curl.
