    Postcard Blind

For window dressing with more than a hint of whimsy, make a blind from postcards and photographs

    13 November 2014

    You Will Need

    • thick tracing paper
    • photographs and postcards
    • remnants of ribbon, lace or other trim
    • glue stick
    • strong, clear craft glue
    • length of fringing
    • a tassel
    • double-sided tape
    • 8mm dowel, slightly longer than width of paper
    • plastic caps
    • sponge
    • rust-brown craft paint
    • two cup hooks and wall plugs

    To Make
1 Cut a piece of thick tracing paper slightly wider and longer than the window where you want to hang the blind.

2 Make colour photocopies of photos and postcards, and arrange them on the tracing paper. Leave a border of a few centimetres at the top (to fold around the dowel) and place remnants of ribbon, lace or other trim between the pictures for decoration. Stick the pictures and decorations in place with a glue stick once you are satisfied with the design.

3 Attach a length of fringing to the bottom of the blind with strong, clear craft glue, and position a tassel in the middle.

4 Attach a strip of double-sided tape to the top of the blind and affix the 8mm dowel to the tape. Roll the paper around the dowel and repeat with another strip of tape to secure. Place plastic caps on the ends of the dowel to complete.

5 Dip a sponge in rust-brown craft paint and dab it on the back of the paper to give it a slightly distressed look.

6 Hang the blind from cup hooks positioned above the window. Roll up the blind by turning one end.

    Good Idea
Make a picture curtain by joining a number of laminated photocopies using metal rings.
