    A weekend in Tanzania

    4 June 2014

Names of travellers: Jade Abbot and Shelley van der Ross
    Destination: Tanzania
    Dates: 18 – 20 April 2014

Your reason for visiting this destination: We’ve always wanted to visit another African country, so we decided to do it together. As best friends, we’ve experienced a lot together and this is just another one of our memories. As they say, friends who travel together, stay together.

    Our Little Black Book

The best hotel: The Landmark Hotel. We stayed here, right on the beach! It doesn’t get much better than that. The Indian Ocean is so gorgeous and we swam ’til 10pm. The hotel suits most travellers, it’s not luxury but it’s definitely a step up from budget. Right next to the hotel is the Jangwani Resort. From there you can take a ferry to any of the nearby islands.

The first thing travellers should do upon reaching this destination: Exchange currency into Tanzanian Shilling.

The best place to shop: Mlimani City mall.

The best way to get around: I’d recommend a taxi as the TukTuks you’ll see are often driven by unlicensed or unskilled drivers.

Watch out for… getting ripped off. We were charged 60 000 shilling for a cab ride that was actually 15 000 shilling!

Don’t leave without… tasting the local brewed beer! We drank Kilimanjaro beer as well as many of the other local beers. However, we went to the local supermarket and bought it instead of paying the overpriced cost at the hotel.

Insider tip: Go to the islands! They are so amazing. And use Karibu to greet people, it means welcome and everybody says it.
