Don’t let your virtual habit override real relationships. Medical doctor and sex therapist Dr Wilme Steenekamp offers guide lines:
Use Voicemail
Switch off your phone when on a date, or spending time with your partner. Or actually switch off your phone in front of your partner. It tells him he’s more important and that you want to focus on communicating with him alone.
Leave Work Behind
Finish work-related and urgent family responsibilities before going away together. Leave a voicemail and out-of-office reply to tell everyone that you’re not available. If you absolutely have to stay in touch, then agree to check your phones at specific times.
Be Open For Discussions
Chat about social network styles that suit you both. If you don’t, it’s easy to misinterpret each other’s social interactions, like whether to put your relationship status on Facebook. Ask your partner for his opinion. Talk about compromises.
