    Mask manual

Everything you need to know about facemasks

    28 September 2014

It’s time to give your face some special treatment in preparation for the carefree natural look that’s becoming so popular this season. Here, all your burning questions are answered.

How long should you keep a mask on your face?
It can vary from five to 20 minutes so be sure to read the instructions. But – be warned – it won’t ‘work better’ if you keep it on for longer. On the contrary, some masks with active ingredients, which can irritate your skin if kept on for too long.

What should be done before and after mask application?
Always cleanse your skin before applying a mask. Afterwards, rinse with warm water (mop the rest of the mask off with a tissue, unless otherwise instructed) and then moisturise.

Why should you use a mask to keep your skin hydrated?
By the age of 30, the skin loses its natural ability to self-hydrate its upper layers and becomes less resistant to external stressors. The protective barrier is weakened and the skin ages rapidly.

Can a normal mask be applied around the eye area?
Definitely not! The skin around the eyes is extremely delicate and doesn’t absorb products as well as the rest of the face. Get a mask specifically formulated for the eye area.

What else will provide a magic mask effect?
If you need a quick ‘lift’, apply a layer of egg white all over your face (except the eye area) and let it dry. Rinse off with warm water, spritz with toner, moisturise and admire your fresh, tight, poreless complexion.
