    Seasoned Salt

    18 June 2014

    You will need

    • plain rectangular box
    • PVA paint
    • paintbrush
    • ruler and pencil
    • glass tubes with cork stoppers
    • A3 sheets of white paper
    • pretty paper
    • coarse salt and spices
    • baker’s twine and washi tape
    • glue gun

    To make
1 Paint the outside of the lid of the box with PVA paint using a dry-brushing technique.

2 Measure the height of the box and subtract 2mm. Now measure the width of the glass tubes. Using your measurements, fold the A3 paper to create slots for the tubes to fit into. Cut the paper, if necessary, to fit your box.

3 Print the ingredients of each salt mixture onto pretty paper and cut to fit the slots. Place under the salt.

4 To make the seasoned salt, grind three parts coarse salt with one part of the seasoning of your choice using an electric grinder. Place the salt in the tubes and seal with the cork stoppers.

5 To finish, wind a small length of twine around the cork, securing it with a little hot glue.

6 Decorate the box with baker’s twine and washi tape.

Good idea Try combinations of the following dried ingredients: rosemary, fennel seeds, vanilla, ginger, lime and lemon zest, chilli, garlic and peppercorns.
