    Patterned Placemats

These are lovely and require very little work to make. You can also use the idea for other projects

    October 14, 2014

    You will need

    • piece of lace
    • 6mm Supawood for the placemats
    • undercoat for the paint
    • PVA paint in the colour of your choice
    • paintbrush
    • spray paint in the colour of your choice
    • masking tape

    To make
    1
Have placemats of about 420 x 290mm cut from the Supawood. Have the corners rounded.

2 Position each placemat on a tin or book so you can paint it more easily. Apply undercoat over the top and sides, leave to dry then also paint the base.

3 Paint your placemats in the colour of your choice for the background. Leave to dry.

4 Cut a piece of lace a little bigger than the placemat, place it on the top and fold the edges over, then stick it down at the back with masking tape.

5 Spray paint over the lace – use smooth movements and apply a few thin coats rather than spraying too much and having the paint run. Leave each coat to dry and repeat until the colour is solid all over.

6 Leave to dry then remove the lace to use for the next placemat. Seal with varnish, if you prefer.

NOTE Always work in a well-ventilated place when you spray paint.
