To make
1 Trace the template and enlarge it so it fits down the side of the pump. Transfer the design onto the pump using dressmaker’s carbon paper and a sharp pencil.
2 Using three strands of embroidery thread, and working in satin stitch, embroider the petals of the flower. Start the petal from the centre and work to the tip. Work the stitches close together to form a solid shape. It is advisable to wear a thimble to enable you to push the needle through the canvas fabric.
3 When the petals are completed, work the stem in running stitches. Work each stitch the same length and space them evenly apart. Secure the ends of the threads on the inside of the pump by weaving them through the back of the stitches. Don’t use knots to secure the thread as the pumps may then become uncomfortable to wear.
