    Embroider A Rose Brooch

Use a remnant of canvas from embroidery samplers to make this pretty brooch

    November 6, 2014

    You Will Need

    • large covered button
    • brooch pin
    • needlepoint diagram
    • small piece of Aida canvas
    • scraps of 4ply yarn in rose, red, pastel pink, silver green and bottle green
    • blunt-ended tapestry needle
    • craft glue
    • rose brooch diagram

    To Make
    1
Cut a piece of canvas to fit over the covered button and cut out. Following the diagram and using the correct coloured yarn, embroider the rose design in needlepoint stitch. This stitch is very easy as it is half a cross-stitch. Work the rose motif from the centre outwards, in the same way as cross-stitch is worked, to place the design in the centre of the brooch.

2 When you have finished, weave in the loose ends at the back of the work and cut away any excess threads. Cover the button, making sure that the embroidery is centred and that there are no folds around the outer edge. Cut away any excess canvas to remove bulk. Attach the canvas and brooch pin to the back of the button with a dab of craft glue and leave to dry.
