Découpage A Clothes Hook In Two Hours

Add romance to your home with an elegantly decorated clothes hook

    25 February 2015

    You Will Need

    • template
    • pencil
    • 9mm Supawood
    • jigsaw with fine blade
    • drill
    • door knobs with screws
    • sandpaper
    • neutral and gold-coloured PVA paint
    • paintbrush
    • serviettes with flower pattern
    • modge podge
    • craft knife
    • gilder’s paste in gold
    • mirror tape

    To Make
1 Enlarge the template to the desired size. Trace it onto 9mm Supawood and cut out using a jigsaw. Ask the hardware store for a blade that has specifically been designed to cut intricate patterns in wood. Drill holes for the door knobs and sand all the edges until smooth.

2 Paint the entire Supawood cut-out in a soft neutral colour and leave to dry.

3 Carefully remove the top layer of a few serviettes with a flower pattern, and cut out the individual motifs.

4 Apply modge podge to the Supawood and lay the serviette motifs on top of it. Put more modge podge on the brush and use it to smooth out the motifs.
NOTE Don’t brush over the motifs to remove bubbles, because the paper could tear. Leave to dry completely.

5 Turn the clothes hook over and cut off any pieces of serviette protruding over the edges with a craft knife. Paint the edges with gold paint and use a soft cloth to embellish the flowered surface with some gold gilder’s paste.

6 Screw on the door knobs. You can decorate them with neutral and gold paint, if you prefer.

7 Affix the clothes hook to the wall with mirror tape.
