• 200 x 64cm cream-coloured linen
• matching-coloured sewing thread
• 50g balls of Elle crochet No.5 in a variety of colours
• 2,5mm crochet hook
• sewing threads to match motifs

Table runner
Wash and dry the linen, then press while still damp. Fold a 1cm-wide double hem around all edges and press before machine stitching.

Crochet motifs

Small motif
Using a 2,5mm crochet hook, work as folls:

1st rnd: work 6 ch and close with a sl st to form a ring.
2nd rnd: make 12 dc in ring, sl st in 1st dc.
3rd rnd: * 5 ch, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc; rep from * 5 times, 5 ch, end rnd with a sl st into base of 5 ch at beg of rnd.
4th rnd: * 7 dc in 5 ch sp; rep from * 6 times, close with a sl st into 1st dc. 5th rnd: sl st into 3 dc in previous rnd; * 7 ch, dc in the dc; rep from * 5 times, 7 ch, sl st into base of 1st 7 ch. 6th rnd: * 9 dc into 7 ch sp; rep from * 6 times, end rnd by sl st into 1st dc.

Cont in this way, making 55 more motifs in a variety of colours.

Large motif
Using a 2,5mm crochet hook, work as folls:

1st rnd: 12 ch, close with a sl st to form a ring.
2nd rnd: 3 ch, 29 tr into ring, sl st into 3 ch.
3rd rnd: 7 ch, * miss 4 tr, 1 dc into 5th tr, 6 ch; * 4 times, sl st into 1 ch.
4th rnd: sl st into 1st 6 ch sp, 2 ch, * 2 tr, 3 dtr, 3 ch, sl st into top of 3rd dtr to form a picot, 3 dtr, 2 tr, 1 dc, into same sp, 1 dc, into next 6 ch sp; rep from * 5 times omitting last dc in 5th rep, sl st to 2nd ch to fasten off.

Cont in this way, making 55 more motifs in a variety of colours.

To complete
Place the larger motifs around the outer edge of the table runner, then hand-stitch in place using matching-coloured thread. Place the smaller motifs next to the larger ones, scattering them to form an irregular border. Secure to the table runner as before. Once completed, turn the table runner over and press gently using an iron on a cool setting.
