If, you firmly believe yourself to be a mermaid, make tracks for Paggiarin 1966: an Italian hotel that now has the deepest pool in the world.
The Y-40 is a diver’s dream: It’s not the biggest pool in the world – that title belongs to the San Alfonso del Mar Resort in Chile – but it is definitely the deepest, with the hotel reporting that the pool is 40 meters deep at its lowest point. Windows into the pool from a leisure common area and a small glass tunnel running underneath part of the pool offer an interesting view of the amazing space.
The Y-40 is filled with thermal water and is currently used for dive training, leisure diving and scientific research. So, it’s in high demand. No worries, the hotel allows you to book a room and a dive at the same time so you’re not left out of the action. It doesn’t come cheap though – a package deal for 100 dives in a year will set you back about R28 500. However the hotel expects diving fanatics (with cash) to line-up for a turn in the pool.
