The Philippines will be opening up their global network to include direct flights to SA! Made up of more than 7 000 islands (with people living on only 2 000 of them,) the Philippine islands are a beach lover’s dream. Soon, South Africans will be able to fly directly to the beautiful islands on seven flights a week.
While we wait for them to set things up, check out the amazing things to be seen in the Philippines:
• The Banaue Rice Terraces
This 2 000 year old landmark is a collection of terraces harmoniously carved into the mountains of Ifugao as rice fields. The locals often call it the eighth wonder of the world.
• The Chocolate Hills
Unfortunately, the 1 268 low peaks that make up the Chocolate Hills in Carmen, Bohol are not made of actual chocolate – they just look like mounds of it. Despite that, it’s still an amazing sight to see.
• The Enchanted Kingdom
Santa Rosa City, Laguna is home to a 17 hectare amusement park called The Enchanted Kingdom. Just 40 km from the capital, it’s a must see for exciting rides and 3D movies.
• The Baroque Churches
Chinese and Philippine builders interpreted the style of European Baroque architecture in these four breath-taking buildings in Manila, Santa Maria, Paoay, and Miag-ao. The churches also collectively form a UNESCO World Heritage site.
• The Tubbataha Reef
The Tubbataha Reef is one of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world. Visit it to see its amazing biodiversity, including the tigershark, the marine turtle, and several species of coral.
