Looking for a romantic getaway, a place to let the kids run wild, or an open space for you and all your mates to chill out, breathe fresh air and feel (literally) on top of the world?
Cedar Peaks is no more than an hour-and-a-half drive outside of Cape Town – and couldn’t be a better break from the big city. A perfect winter hide-away, to make fires, look for snow or take long walks and soak up the views; or a summer break, to hike, chase waterfalls, and chill and swim in the farm’s vast dam. The drive there is easy and as you begin to ascend the Dasklip Pass you feel your troubles falling by the wayside.
When you reach the Cedar Peak Farm, situated in the Groot Winterhoek conservancy, there is an option of two cottages, a two-bedroom or a four-bedroom house. The cottages are very comfortable with all the necessary amenities, including luxury linin and towels, making your stay that much more jim-dandy. Needless to say, perched on the top of the mountain, the views are breathtaking. The farm overlooks the Olifants River Valley, and the Sandstone rock formations that skirt the farm form wonderful characters telling grand stories.
If you are not a great adventurer, you could stay on the farm, zone out on the large stoep to take in all the magnificence that surrounds you, stroll around looking for farm animals, or amble to the dam (it even has a sandy beach area). However, if you are adventurous, there are some wonderful hikes – there’s a rooibos plantation, mountains, valleys, rivers and waterfalls to explore. Look out for the array of bird and wild life, and the vegetation is spectacular, too.
This is a top weekend escape! Just the place to rejuvenate and enjoy nature in all its beauty. So go on, get off the city streets and make nature your friend – you won’t regret it.
