2 March 2015
Here are tips on keeping an open mind.
Follow these guidelines to open up your world:
Expose yourself to different styles of music and art, and read on a wide range of topics.
Keep a journal in which you reflect on your experiences. When you understand where your beliefs and reactions originate, you’re better equipped to understand others.
‘It may be cliché, but travel really does broaden the mind,’ says Johannesburg-based psychologist and life coach Christine Boon. Research in history, culture and belief of the country’s inhabitants. Try to connect with local people.
Take a class, study a new language, learn to play a musical instrument.
Enlarge your circle of friends; go somewhere you’ve never been before. Push to the edge of your comfort zone to expand your range of awareness.
