Dailyfix user and MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet cardholder Nic Smuts-Muller has won a R500 Woolworths gift card for himself and R1 000 cash for Yenzani Children’s Home. Nic is the seventh and final winner of a competition hosted on Dailyfix to support the Vote4Charity campaign. MySchool cardholders who had voted for their favourite charity in the Vote4Charity campaign had a chance to win a weekly prize of a R500 Woolworths gift card plus a R1 000 cash donation for their favourite charity.
This week’s winner, Nic Smuts-Muller, nominated Yenzani’s Children’s Home in Midrand, which was founded in 2002 by Sanne Mirk as a shelter for children who have been victims of abuse. Concerned about children returning to the homes of their abusers, she met with the Child Protection Unit of the SAPS and the Department of Social Development to establish the needs of children in crisis in Midrand. Yenzani Children’s Home opened its doors in September 2003, with Gary Bailey as the organisation’s patron.
Yenzani focuses on the safe housing of children and their welfare and education, and protects them from secondary abuse. Every child is made to feel like part of ‘a family’ and has their physical and emotional injuries attended to by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, psychologists, nurses, equine and art therapy, individual and group therapy and trained caregivers to re-build their confidence and self-worth for a more positive future. Social interaction is an important part in children’s development and is actively encouraged through a volunteers and ‘friends’ network through homework, outings, sport, camps, ‘youth’ and Church groups.
