Dailyfix user and MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet cardholder Cornelia Hambly has won a R500 Woolworths gift card for herself and R1 000 cash for the National Sea Rescue Institute. Cornelia is the sixth weekly winner of a competition hosted on Dailyfix to support the Vote4Charity campaign. MySchool cardholders who have voted for their favourite charity in the Vote4Charity campaign in which the charity with the most votes can win up to R50 000, also have a chance to win a weekly prize of a R500 Woolworths gift card plus a R1 000 cash donation for their favourite charity.
This week’s winner, Cornelia Hambly, nominated the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), the charity that saves lives on South African waters. It is run by 940 highly skilled, unpaid volunteers who are on standby day and night throughout the year to respond to emergencies at sea. .
The NSRI education arm, called WaterWise Academy, teaches children what to do in an emergency and gives them the confidence to initiate basic bystander CPR while they wait for the ambulance to arrive. The WaterWise Academy targets disadvantaged youth between the ages of nine and 14, because statistically they are the most at risk.
There are many ways to support the NSRI, from sponsoring a boat to becoming a volunteer. Find out more at www.nsri.org.za.
