Make your way to the Cinema Nouveau and selected Ster-Kinekor theatres – and be enthralled by an epic human opera production.
Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, led by Met Music Director, James Levine and starring South African tenor, Johan Botha as Walter, was filmed on 13 December for broadcast at movie theatres worldwide.
The opera was released in South Africa earlier this month and will run for a limited season at cinemas across the country.
The running time of the show is approximately 6 hours with two intermissions.
Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg is Richard Wagner’s only comic opera, a monumental yet intimate love story that takes an artistic journey. The story revolves around the creation of a song, written by an impatient, self- poet. The plot follows a very typical operatic formula: young love overcomes even the most intrusive old men.
