Project notes
• The size of the particleboard, fabric and trim will depend on the size of your dog – our bed was made for a small dog.
• The number of buttons will vary, depending on the size of the bed.

Shopping list
• particle board cut into a circle with a diameter of 600mm
• 4 legs of your choice
• high-density foam, cut to the same size as the particle board
• 1m fabric of your choice for the upholstery
• 1m cheaper fabric for the base
• 6 buttons, covered in the same fabric as the upholstery
• 2m braid or tasselled cord for trim

• upholstery needle and thread

Get started
1 Paint the legs in the colour of your choice and allow them to dry.
2 Mark the position of each leg on the particleboard, along with the positions of the buttons. Drill the guide holes needed for the leg screws and then drill holes in the particleboard to fix the buttons.
3 Screw the legs into the particleboard.
4 Staple the foam onto the particleboard.

TIP Cover the foam with a piece of leftover fabric and staple it to the bottom of the base – this helps prevent the upholstery from sticking to the foam and simplifies the process of drawing in pleats underneath the buttons.

5 Drape the upholstery fabric over the stool and staple it down on one side of the base, so that it cannot slip off but can still move. Thread the upholstery needle and stick it through the bottom of the base straight up through the foam. String the button onto your thread and thread the needle back through the same hole. Knot the thread, depending on how deep you want the buttons to be, then staple it to the base.
6 Now firmly stretch the fabric over the side, spacing the pleats evenly, and staple it to the bottom of the base.
7 Place the trim in position and stick it to the edge of the base with the glue gun.
