No longer a little girl, your teen is probably tired of the cluttered baby girl look and ready for a bedroom that reflects her evolving style.
Arm yourself with a fresh new colour scheme and a few new décor items, the makeover can begin and end before school starts.
The Transformation
A black, white and turquoise colour scheme and a couple of owls were top of the wish list after this fairly large room had been given a lick of white paint. A polka dot feature wall was also created using vinyl dots from Mywalltattoo.com; the dots do not extend all the way down the wall, allowing the eyes to rest (and preventing the teen from waking up feeling dotty)! Vinyl stickers offer an easy alternative to paint as they can easily be removed to keep up with the changing moods and tastes of a teenager.
The cupboard panelling has been brought to life with Plascon Enamel Doors and Trims in a glossy black, giving this piece of furniture a quick and easy update. If you try this at home, remember to mask out all the panels before painting and allow them to dry completely before applying a second coat.
A chalkboard wall is perfect for reminders, favourite quotes or simply letting out your inner artist – and the dark colour also adds depth and warmth to a large room. Plascon Velvaglo in the colour Zenith Teal was used to update an old storage box and bedside table, and cushions were added to the box to create comfy seating for reading or writing on the wall. A simple box frame made from pine and hardboard and coated with chalkboard paint was placed flush against the wall and conceals an unused aircon system.
Once all the clutter had been removed from the bedroom, a few new décor items such as bedding, a new light fitting, a desk lamp, art, a rug and curtains were added to finish off the look.
