Gardeners who enjoy flower arranging will love the deciduous corkscrew willow (Salix matsudana ‘Tortuosa’), as the long, spiral shaped side branches can be cut and dramatically arranged in a vase.
It is suitable for medium to large gardens, especially alongside a water feature, as these hardy, slim trees are impervious to heavy soil with poor drainage. It grows to about 5m in height and does not take up as much space as a weeping willow (Salix babylonica), which, in any case, is a category-2 alien.
