White, blue and violet will make your garden look cool and fresh, even on the hottest summer days

Design tips
Blue does not define borders and therefore makes a space look bigger. It is especially useful for toning down bright colours and works well in sunny spots.
White can look pale and washed-out, so in full sunlight it should preferably be planted among other colours. It is perfect for brightening up shady gardens, as well as for use in beds that are illuminated at night.
Hide unsightly elements, such as the compost heap or a dog kennel, by planting a creeper – such as fragrant, snow-white star jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides) – against it.
Purple, blue or white petunias form a cool, colourful groundcover when planted around larger shrubs in pots. Also sow white alyssum in open areas.
White flags (Spathiphylum) are well known as indoor plants but in subtropical regions they will grow well in the shade of big trees.
