Reader’s Question
My son is a keen gardener who has had a compost heap for 10 years. But when he recently removed compost to work into his veggies, we were surprised by hundreds of cockroaches. His chickens had a feast, but no one else was impressed. What caused the problem and how do we deal with it?
JJ’s Answer
It’s quite common for cockroaches to lay eggs in compost heaps. You can use products like Fendona, Bungy and Alphathrin, but I’d give the chickens a chance to get rid of them naturally first. And the odds are good that what you see is just the tip of the iceberg!
