• Water your garden well three times a week in summer; do so before 11.30am and after 4.30pm to prevent too much water from evaporating or getting blown away by the wind.
• Plant hydrangeas in deep shade and prune back hard in winter.
• Large trees should be pruned periodically to maintain an attractive shape and encourage good growth – but find an expert who knows what they’re doing.
• Structure is important, but I believe there must be balance between structure and a bit of ‘wild’ garden as well!
