1 The plant should be at least 15cm high before you start shaping it into a bonsai.
2 When cutting branches, don’t remove the entire branch with the first cut; rather do it bit by bit.
3 When potting the bonsai, put a piece of nylon mesh over the drainage holes – this will prevent the soil from draining out.
4 The position of the tree in the pot is very important. Never place the tree exactly in the centre; rather position it a little more towards the back than the front.
5 The purpose of the wire is to manipulate the branches and hold them in the direction in which you want them to grow; once the tree’s branches are in position, remove the wire.
