We put it in our tea and slather it on our toast, but for centuries honey has also been a prized beauty potion… Here’s how you can use it at home:
For Dry Or Dehydrated Skin
Using a clean foundation brush, apply raw honey (straight from the jar) to clean skin. Leave it on for 10 to 15 min. Wash off with lukewarm water. Or, mix a tablespoon of honey into two tablespoons of Bulgarian yoghurt, apply to your face and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. The lactic acid in the yoghurt will gently exfoliate and help soothe irritated skin.
For Dry And Damaged Hair Or Dry Scalp
Honey is known to slightly bleach hair due to the natural occurrence of hydrogen peroxide in its chemical composition, so take care when applying it to your hair, especially if you don’t want to alter the colour. Mix equal parts of honey and your favourite oil together and massage it into your hair. Be sure to work the mixture into your scalp and concentrate on the ends. Cover your head with a shower cap and leave on for 10 minutes.
Bonus TIP
Honey will soothe and restore sunburnt skin. Mix one part raw honey with two parts pure aloe vera gel and apply to inflamed skin.
