    Wrap A Word In Yarn

Bring the warmth and beauty of mohair into your home décor with these covered letters

    11 March 2015

NOTE We show you how we wrapped the letter H, but you can use the same basic technique for all the letters of the alphabet. The trick is not to make the yarn too thick in certain sections.

    You Will Need

    • mohair or other knitting yarn (we used African Expressions Love)
    • polystyrene letters
    • double-sided adhesive tape (or use wood glue or a suitable craft glue)
    • scissors

    To Make
1 Stick strips of double-sided adhesive tape around the ends of the letter.

2 Cut pieces of yarn to fit over the ends. Wind the yarn around your fingers a few times and cut through it, so you make a few lengths at a time.

3 Remove the plastic layer from the double-sided tape and stick a single row of yarn over the ends of the letter.

4 Now stick another piece of double-sided tape over the ends of the yarn, right around the legs of the letter. Remove the plastic layer from the tape and stick another layer of yarn over the first one to make it thicker.

5 Now cover the crossbar of the H, or any other extra parts, with the yarn running in the same direction as that on the ends of the letter. Knot the yarn at the back and tuck it in to finish off.

6 Wind the yarn in the opposite direction around the left-hand leg of the letter. Begin at the top, then wind the yarn over the crossbar and down to the bottom. Finish off as before.

7 Repeat the process on the right-hand side to complete the letter.

TIP You can also cut your own letters from chipboard or hardboard.
