    Upcycle Project: Découpage a Chair

Use a modern tapestry effect to give an old chair new life

    13 January 2015

    You Will Need

    • chair with a wooden seat and backrest
    • tapestry paper 1 and tapestry paper 2
    • paint or spray paint in the colour of your choice
    • modge podge
    • decoupage varnish
    • paintbrushes
    • drop sheet
    • fine-grit sandpaper
    • scissors

    To Make
1 First paint or spray paint the whole chair so that everything that will be visible after you have decoupaged the chair looks fresh. Place the chair on a drop sheet, sandpaper it lightly to remove the old varnish or paint, and paint or spray paint it in the colour of your choice. Leave it to dry properly before you begin to decoupage.

2 Copy the tapestry paper in the desired size and cut it in the shape of the seat and the backrest. Paint modge podge over the back of the paper and stick it in position. Paint another layer of modge podge over the top. Leave to dry then repeat another three times.

3 Seal the decoupage work with a layer of decoupage varnish.
