Transform an ordinary little table into a bedside table and bookshelf

This was an ordinary little table with a pretty kiaat top that we transformed into a contemporary bedside table and bookshelf.

We first painted the legs white and then had three extra pieces of kiaat cut to create the shelf: two for the sides and one for the new top. The new top doesn’t extend across the full width of the table so that larger books or a vase can fit in the opening.
TIP For pleasing proportions, choose a table with a large enough top to allow for the shelf and ensure the new shelf’s height is less than that of the legs.
