    Crochet leg warmers

    25 July 2013

    You will need
    • 4 x 50g balls Elle Stretch DK in Grey Denim (shade no. 050)
    • 3mm and 4mm crochet hooks

    Before you start
You will need two measurements from the person you’re making the leg warmers for: the circumference of the calf and the length of the leg. Make a length of chain to fit around the calf and then work a tension sample in double crochet and check that it fits the calf comfortably.

You need two sizes of crochet hooks to shape the leg warmer. Crochet the first few rows with the smaller hook (3mm) then switch to the bigger hook (4mm) for the rest of the piece.

    Abbreviations
    ch        chain
    dc        double crochet
    dtr       double treble
    st(s)    stitch(es)
    rep      repeat
    sk        skip
    tr         treble
    ttr        triple treble
    sp        space

    To make
    1st row:
using a 3mm crochet hook make number of ch sts to desired width (that is a multiple of 3ch + 1).

3rd row: *2tr, 2ch, 1dc in each 2ch sp, rep from * to end, 2ch, turn. Rep 3rd row to desired length.

    Cuff
    1st row:
*dc in 2ch sp, dc in next tr, 1tr in next tr, rep from * to end, 3ch, turn.

2nd row: tr in each st across to end, 3ch, turn.

    3rd row: rep 2nd row.

4th row: *sk 2sts, dc in next st, 3ch, rep from * to end, turn. 5th row: *dc in 3ch sp, 2tr, 2dtr, 2tr in next 3ch sp, dc in next 3ch sp, 2tr, 2dtr, 1ttr, 2dtr, 2tr in next 3ch sp, rep from * to end.
