Granny Squares
Size of one completed granny square: 10 x 10cm

For Sizes 87-92cm (S/M) Work rnds 1-5 for each square
For Sizes 97-102cm (L/XL) Work rnds 1-6 for each square

You Will Need

• pattern
• scraps of double knitting yarn in 12 different colours, altogether approximately 500g
• 100g double knitting yarn in colour of your choice (main colour)
• 4mm crochet hook
• tapestry needle
• small sewing scissors

NOTE Use the same quality yarn for all the squares so that it washes and wears in the same way.

To Crochet Using 4mm crochet hook and colour A, work 4 ch.

1st rnd Work 2 tr in 1st ch (1st ch forms centre of square), *1 ch, 3 tr in 1 stch *, rep from * to * twice more, 1 ch, sl st in 4th ch worked. Fasten off.

2nd rnd Join colour B to any 1ch-sp, 3 ch, 2 tr in same 1ch-sp, * 1 ch, 3 tr in next 1ch-sp, 1 ch, 3 tr in same 1 ch-sp*, rep from * to * twice more, 1 ch, 3 tr in next 1 ch-sp, 1 ch, sl st in 3rd ch worked at beg of rnd 2. Fasten off.

3rd rnd Join colour C to last 1ch-sp of rnd 2, 3 ch, 2 tr in same 1 ch-sp, *[1 ch, 3 tr in next 1 ch-sp] twice, 1 ch, 3 tr in same 1 ch-sp*, rep from * to * twice more, rep from [to] twice, 1 ch, sl st in 3 rd ch worked at beg of rnd 3. Fasten off.

4th rnd Join colour D to last 1ch-sp of rnd 3, 3 ch, 2 tr in same 1 ch-sp, *[1 ch, 3 tr in next 1ch-sp] 3times, 1 ch, 3 tr in same 1 ch-sp*, rep from * to * twice more, rep from [to] 3 times, 1 ch, sl st in 3rd ch worked at beg of rnd 4. Fasten off.

5th rnd Join colour E to last 1 ch-sp of rnd 4, 3 ch, 2 tr in same 1 ch-sp, *[1 ch, 3 tr in next 1 ch-sp] 4 times, 1 ch, 3 tr in same 1 ch-sp*, rep from * to * twice more, rep from [to] 4 times, 1 ch, sl st in 3rd ch worked at beg of rnd 5. Fasten off here for size 87-92cm. Darn in all loose ends.

6th rnd 1 ch, * 1 dc in each of next 18 sts, 3 dc in next 1 ch-sp*, rep from * to * 3 times more, sl st in 1st ch worked at beg of rnd 6. Fasten off. Darn in all loose ends. Make an extra row of stitches before sewing up, at the four places indicated in the pattern. Join any colour in 1 ch-sp at the corner, 3 ch, 2 tr in same sp, * 1 ch, 3 tr in next sp *, rep from * to * 4 times more. Fasten off.

Edging (along hem) Work 3 tr, 1 ch in every 1ch-sp and [3tr, 1 ch, 3 tr, 1 ch] at each corner/point.

Edging (along neck opening) Work 3tr, 1 ch in every 1 ch-sp, with 1 dc in 1 ch-sp of squares at each of the four corners.
