You Will Need
Before You Begin
Measure your head from the nape of your neck and around the forehead where the headband will sit. You will need to subtract 6cm from this measurement for the finished length of the crocheted strip before the ends are joined together.

1 Using the main coloured yarn and 4mm crochet hook, work 11 ch.
2 To start the 1st row, work 1 dc into the 2nd ch from the hook. Now work 1 dc into each ch to end; this completes the row – you should have worked a total of 10 dc.
3 Work 1 ch; this st is the turning ch and is used to create the height of the next row. Now turn your crochet over to begin the next row.
4 To start the second row, work 1 dc into the last dc of the first row.
5 Complete the row by working 1 dc into each dc of the first row. This completes the row – you should have worked a total of 10 dc.
6 Repeat steps 3 to 6 until the headband measures the required length. Fasten off the last st with a sl st, leaving a long piece of yarn.
7 Thread the tapestry needle with the loose piece of yarn and neatly sew the two ends together. Make sure this seam is not bulky as it will be uncomfortable at the back of your neck. This completes the main headband.
Small Flowers
Using one of the contrast colours and a 4mm crochet hook, work 5 ch. Join the last ch to the first ch with a sl st. You will have now made a small ring. Work 2 ch; this is the turning ch and will create the height of the round. Work 2 tr into the ring, 1 ch, now work a sl st. these sts will form one petal.
Repeat this formation of sts until you have worked five petals. Fasten off the last st with a sl st.
Large Flowers
This flower is worked in the same way as the small flower until you have completed the small ring. Work 2 ch for the beginning of round. Now work 4 tr into the ring, 1 ch, now work a sl st. These sts will form one petal. Repeat this formation of sts until you have worked five petals. Fasten off the last st with a sl st.
Good Idea
If you wish, you can make double flowers for your headband. Work in the same coloured yarn and make one large and one small flower. Sew the smaller flower to the centre of the large one.
To Complete
Darn in all the loose ends at the back of the work and cut away the excess threads with the embroidery scissors. Attach the flowers to the headband securely.
