Buy different-sized buttons in red and blue-green, and arrange them in rows, in the sequence in which you would like to thread them. Each row should measure about 30cm.
Cut two lengths of red or blue-green embroidery thread measuring about 70cm and tie them together 15cm from one end. Thread one strand through the first button from the front, and the other from the back – through the same hole.
Thread the second hole, then tie a double knot right up against the button. Repeat to secure the remaining buttons and knot to complete.
Keep going until you have a napkin ring for each place setting, then tie them around the napkins. You can make more of these button strands to use them as table decorations.
TIP To make it easier to thread the buttons onto the embroidery thread, use sticky tape to secure one end of the thread to your work surface.
