Something for the kids…
You will need
• four 5,5 x 28cm strips of grey fabric
• three 6 x 28cm strips of yellow fabric
• two 4 x 28cm strips of gingham fabric
• two 16 x 28cm pieces of white fabric
• matching coloured sewing thread
• 25cm zip
NOTE All seam allowances are 1cm.
1 Starting with grey, join alternate grey and yellow strips to form one panel. Press all the seams open. Cut the panel across the strips into two equal-sized 16 x 28cm panels. Sew one gingham strip to the bottom edge of each of the panels and press.
2 Pin one side of the zipper tape to the top edge of a patchwork panel, right sides together, positioning the zipper tape 3mm down from the fabric edge. The top and bottom end of the zip should be 1,5cm in from the edge of the panel. Pin and sew one white fabric panel to the patchwork panel, right sides together, enclosing the zip between the two layers. Open up and fold the two panels over the the zipper tape and press the seam. Top stitch 2mm in from the fold. Sew the remaining two panels to the opposite side of the zip in the same manner.
3 Pull the zipper down. Pin the four layers, with the right sides of the panels together. Sew and overlock the outer edges. Turn through to the right side and press.
