Keep your snacks in a trendy ecofriendly fabric lunch bag. The bag has a waterproof lining, making it perfect for outdoor use. Here are the instructions.
You will need
• 70 x 30cm piece of fabric
• 70 x 30cm PVC fabric
• strip of Velcro
• matching coloured thread
1 Note A 1cm seam allowance is included in the measurements. Cut the fabric and PVC fabric in half so each piece measures 35 x 30cm. Draw a 5cm square at the bottom corners on each piece. Cut out the square, this forms the gusset at base of bag.
2 Place the fabric pieces together with the right sides facing and pin. Sew and overlock the two side edges and the bottom edge. At the cut-out corner piece, pull the two layers apart to form a diagonal line. Now sew down the diagonal seam to form the gusset corner. Complete the seam by overlocking the edge.
3 Sew the PVC fabric pieces in the same way. Use the paper clips to hold the fabric together, in the same way as you would pin the pieces together. It is not necessary to overlock the edges of the PVC fabric as it does not fray.
4 Turn the PVC bag right side out and place it on the inside of the fabric bag. Use the paperclips to hold the layers together. Sew around the top edge, leaving a small opening for turning.
5 Carefully turn the bag through the opening. With the right side of the bag on the outside, push the PVC lining back into the bag. Fold the seam allowances at the opening and complete the seam.
6 Sew one piece of Velcro to the centre top edge of the bag. Fold the top edge over twice to form a cuff. Sew the other piece of Velcro to the underside of the cuff so it corresponds with the first piece.
