Four easy ways to incorporate trends into an old coffee table.
Transform your coffee table into shelves
Saw a table into two pieces – one piece slightly wider than the other. Paint the table pieces the same colour as your wall and attach to your wall using shelf brackets in the same colour.
Give your table a botanical twist
Decoupage flowers onto a table top and paint the legs in a bright contrasting colour. We made colour photocopies of flowers, cut them out and used modge podge to decoupage them onto the table. add a thin layer of modge podge over the top for extra protection. Varnish when the modge podge is dry.
Weathered look for a table
Apply a primer and leave to dry. Paint in your chosen colour. When dry, use coarse and fine grit sandpaper to remove some of the top layer here and there. apply extra pressure on areas where natural wear and tear occurs, like corners and handles.
TIP Apply candle wax over the areas of the table where you want the bottom layer of paint to show through, before you paint the top layer. The paint will then come off more easily when you sand it.
Elevate your coffee table
Cut a table in half and stack the pieces on top of each other, securing them to the wall with shelf brackets. Silver leafing the entire table gives it a glamorous feel. This serves as a great entrance-hall side table or shelving.
